After the tour being postponed for two years and undergoing a name change, 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) are back, and they are back with a bang.
The Australian pop rock band has returned to Europe for their Take My Hand Tour in anticipation of their fifth studio album, and in support of their 2020 album CALM.
I got a ticket to their show at OVO Arena Wembley, and on arrival I was greeted to a queue of eager fans that looped around Arena Square.
The band opened with their smash hit No Shame as they performed behind bars. From the opening song alone it was clear to see that the quartet: Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, Michael Clifford and Calum Hood, had brought their all.
Playing everything from deep cuts such as Disconnected, to fan favourites Ghost of You and Beside you, to a brand-new song titled Easy For You To Say from their upcoming album. 5SOS have put together a perfectly curated setlist to please everybody in the audience.
One thing 5SOS have mastered is effortlessly transitioning songs into one another. They have made a seamless setlist full of bangers and each era merges into one. The transition from Want You Back into Disconnected left the arena in a frenzy.
Front man Luke Hemmings knows how to get the crowd going. During the encore Youngblood, the entire arena was off their feet and jumping. The energy was electrifying.
The band’s last tour The Meet You There Tour played smaller, intimate venues across the globe. The Take My Hand Tour marks the band’s first arena tour since 2016, and proves they have not lost the ability to play larger venues and get everybody off their feet and singing along.
5 Seconds of Summer are better live than on the record, and they know how to put on a show, no matter the size of the venue.
