When it comes to work, trying to sit down and get it done in your bedroom usually leads to the realisation that you need to clean out your wardrobe. So, you might head over to the library, and spend way too long finding the right seat, setting yourself up and then realising you forgot your water bottle. Say ‘hello’ to the world of coffee shops! Getting yourself a top notch coffee, and maybe even a cupcake to spur you on, can be all you need to actually open that Word document and get started. Obviously you have your go-to’s like Costa or Starbucks, but if you want to switch it up and feel like the main character, then take a look at these places.
Manchester – 92 Degrees
This place is perfect for all your coffee needs. From brewing tips, to a coffee bean subscription, 92 Degrees has you covered. You can even take a quiz to find out which coffee bean best suits your pallet. So you will never have the awkward moment of buying a drink, sipping it and then having to immediately throw it away because you went too far out of your comfort zone.
With minimalist art and cream walls all around, you feel calm and serene. However they also have several shelfs full of local and classic books, very much giving a ‘cool library’ vibe. The perfect place to tag in your Instagram story where you’ve taken that candid photo of your coffee and laptop, ‘#backtothegrind’.
16 John Dalton St, Manchester, M2 6HY
Also have stores in Liverpool, Southport and Leeds.
Nottingham – Effy
All you need to do is look at Effy’s Instagram page and you will see why they have a 4.9-star rating across the board. Kitted out with the comfiest couches and plumped up pillows, this coffee shop seems like a chilled-out millennial’s dream.
Effy caters to those who love a good coffee to get their morning started (or to wake them up to finish that essay). As well as the non-coffee drinkers who would rather a milkshake or, if you’re being ‘good’, a cheeky diet coke. With a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, this is the perfect place to buy a top-notch snack and get your work done.
Ground Floor, 15 Hounds Gate, Nottingham, NG1 7AA
Liverpool – Rococo
This is one of my personal go-to places when I have work to do and want to feel like the main character in my own movie. This is a fully independent coffee shop and the only one of its kind, so they have put all their time and energy into making this location the best it can be. With affordable (and Instagramable) food, Rococo is the perfect place to take your laptop so you can have lunch and work at the same time. With a view of the city centre from almost all of their seating, you can people watch get your work done with a great view!
First Floor, 61 Lord St, Liverpool, L2 6PB
Birmingham – 3 Three’s Coffee Lounge
With a broad range of coffees sourced from Latin America to Rwanda, there is something for everyone here. Their menu doesn’t just have your regular bacon butty on there. It’s filled with exciting snacks like nachos, hot dogs, sweet and savoury bagels. If all that wasn’t enough, they have a bakery section full of cookies and flapjacks. You name it, they have it.
If you’re thinking, this all sounds great, but I’m vegan, they have an array of vegan options across the board! Perfect for you to snap a picture of and #gettowork.
