Marvel isn’t playing around when it comes to the multiverse in phase four as we’ve seen in Wandavision, Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home. With everything we know so far, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is promising to be just as big.
What’s the plot of the film?
In the first promotional trailer that played at the end of No Way Home, Doctor Strange says: ‘I did what I had to do.’ This could be in regards to the spell he cast in the film, which destroyed the multiverse and could have caused the problems he faces in Multiverse of Madness.
The world is glitching, people are in panic and ‘we don’t know who or what will walk through’ says Wong (played by Benedict Wong.)
We later see Mordo (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor) wanting Strange to pay the price for his crimes upon the multiverse in front of a jury. It gets more exciting when we hear a familiar British voice telling Strange: ‘We should tell him the truth.’
Doctor Strange turns to Wanda (played by Elizabeth Olsen) for help, as he knows about her past with the multiverse. The events of Wandavision have led to Wanda’s transformation into the Scarlet Witch and the unlocking of her true powers, as well as becoming an expert in the multiverse.
The trailer takes a turn, and like the animated series What If…, teases a version of dark Strange. This makes us wonder if it will follow the same plot as the episode.
Wanda mentions having nightmares about her twins that she lost in the multiverse in Wandavision. The trailer shows a zombie-looking version of Wanda later on. Do her nightmares drive her insane? Or is there an evil version that exists of her in the multiverse too?
There is so much action in the movie, and at a run time of 2 hours 6 minutes, it is certainly going to be jam packed.
Are there any cameos?
In the multiverse, anything is possible.
The trailer teases a glowing figure that looks like Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larson), and fans are theorising Patrick Stewart has reprised his role as Charles Xavier due to that recognisable voice in the jury scene.
Familiar faces such as Rachel McAdams who plays Dr. Christine Palmer are returning, as well as a new face Xochitl Gomez who will play America Chavez.
Newcomer America Chavez has the ability to travel through universes, a power that will come in handy when battling the multiverse. And sticking to her comic book roots, Chavez has been confirmed to be gay in the movie.
When is the film coming out?
The film is even set for an earlier release date in the UK, of Thursday, May 5.
