Ever since it was revealed that My Policeman had begun filming in April of 2021, fans of the book, film buffs and ‘Directioners’ alike have been waiting on the edge of their seats. And now, it has arrived.
Prime Video have announced that My Policeman will be released in cinemas in the UK and America on 21 October. It will be available on the streaming platform worldwide on 4th November.
It is turning out to be a big year for one Mr Harry Styles. He released his third studio album Harry’s House in May 2022, is currently on a worldwide tour, and is starring in two of the most highly anticipated films of the year.
My Policeman Plot
In Brighton, during the 1950s a socially closeted policeman, Tom Burgess, engages in a love affair with a museum curator, Patrick Hazelwood. After being forced to repress his true feelings, he marries a schoolteacher called Marion. But, as Tom begins to feel torn between the two, tensions rise and ultimately he must make a choice.
This film is based on the highly acclaimed novel of the same name, written by Bethan Roberts.
Cast
Grammy-award winning Styles spearheads this films as policeman Tom Burgess. Styles has been making his way into the film industry for some time now. He starred in the smash-hit movie Dunkirk and in the upcoming Olivia Wilde film Don’t Worry Darling alongside Florence Pugh.
Tom’s wife Marion is portrayed by The Crown’s own Emma Corrin. She played Lady Diana Spencer in season four of Netflix’s The Crown.
Patrick Hazelwood is played by Olivier-award winner David Dawson. Dawson can also be seen in shows such as Peaky Blinders and The Last Kingdom.
Other cast members include Rupert Everett (My Best Friend’s Wedding), Gina McKee (Notting Hill) and Linus Roache (Vikings).
Talking with Vanity Fair, gay footballer Robbie Rogers says that My Policeman was ‘kind of like my coming-out book. I really think the book found me.’
Rogers is among the millions of people who cannot wait to see this film. However he also made reference to the string of antigay laws, such as the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill being passed in America recently.
‘The world moves forward slowly and then there are very ignorant people that want to send us back to the ’50s,’ he said.
