Fans devastated Killing Eve is coming to an end, fear not a spin-off prequel to the thriller is in the works and here’s all we know about it.

On April 17 BBC will air the final episode of the series starring by Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh, but, according to The Sun, this isn’t the last time we’ll see all the characters as a spin-off is on the way.

What is Killing Eve?

Killing Eve is a British spy thriller which premiered in 2018 which is actually based on the novel series Villanelle by Luke Jennings. The TV series stars Comer as assassin Villanelle – a talented killer, who clings to the luxuries her violent job affords her – and Oh as Eve – a security services operative who previously was desk-bound before recruited by an intelligence agency. The women are constantly drawn to each other – despite their missions against each other.

Over its four seasons the series has been nominated for dozens of awards and won 16 including BAFTAs and Emmys.

What We Know about the Spin-off

According to reports by The Sun BBC America and AMC Networks are looking at a series based on the early life of MI6 spymaster Carolyn Mertens. In Killing Eve Carolyn, played by Fiona Shaw, is portrayed as a ruthless and enigmatic head of MI6’s Russia desk and plays a major role in all four seasons of the drama.

The spin-off will, apparently, focus on her earlier life, likely looking into her time as young spook in the former Soviet Union.

An insider told the publication: ‘In many ways Carolyn was a bit of curveball choice for a prequel, but in other ways she was an obvious choice. The creators could have gone for Villanelle or Eve, but Carolyn provides a different take on things.

‘Bosses felt that Killing Eve had to come to an end but its spirit should live on in a new form, and this is the project they’re focusing their efforts on now.’

Fans shouldn’t expect to see the spin-off any time soon as the insider went on to say a ‘finished series is months, if not years, away’.

‘It’s in the early stages of development and the finished series is months, if not years, away. But at least fans have something to look forward to.’
