Members of the original That 70’s Show cast have been tipped to be in ‘negotiations’ to return for the Netflix spin-off That 90’s Show.
According to Deadline yesterday, Sunday April 17, Wilmer Valderrama said he’d be up for reprising his role as Fez from the original teen comedy when he said: ‘If the timing is right, I’d never say no.’
What is That 70’s Show?
That 70’s Show ran for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006 and followed the story of Eric Forman and his friends as they navigated life as teenagers in the 70s. It started the careers of Mila Kunis (Ted), Laura Prepon (Orange is the New Black), Topher Grace (Spider-Man 3), and Valderrama (Encanto) – Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson also starred.
The group would get up to many adventures in Wisconsin and often participated in underage drinking and drug-taking all while in the basement of Eric’s parent’s home. His mother Kitty was played by Debra Jo Rupp and Red by Kurtwood Smith.
There was an original and unrelated spin-off to the show, That 80’s Show, set in San Diego, but it was unsuccessful and lasted only one season.
All We Know About That 90’s Show
Unlike the first attempted spin-off That 90’s Show has confirmed to be set as a follow-on from the original series and feature the OG characters.
According to the release the Netflix show will be set 1995 back in Point Place, Wisconsin where Leia Forman – played by Shut Eye’s Callie Haverda – daughter of Eric and Donna (Prepon), is visiting her grandparents for the summer.
‘Leia ends up bonding with the new generation of town kids under the watchful eye of Kitty (Rupp) and the stern gaze of Red (Smith). Sex, drugs and rock ’n roll never dies, it just changes clothes’.
According to Deadline ‘other original That ’70s Show cast members, including Grace, Prepon, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, are in negotiations to recur in the 10-episode spinoff’.
As for Fez returning, in a TV Insider interview when asked about the show, NCIS‘s Valderrama said on the red carpet: ‘I’m a little busy now, but I support them so much. I’m rooting for them. I wish them nothing but the best. If the timing is right, I’d never say no.’
