It’s been twelve long years since Percy Jackson took to our screens and swooped us up into his world of chaos. And we have all been begging for another dose of Greek mythology ever since. While it would be nice for us to get some Greek mythology representation that wasn’t from this one series, we will take what we can get.
What is this series about?
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a TV series based off the five-part book series.
The books follow Percy Jackson, who we meet as a twelve year-old, but by the final book he is sixteen. Percy is a Demigod (his father is Poseidon and his mother is a human). He is sent to Camp Half-Blood; a summer camp for children like him. Percy and his friends go on many adventures and must make life-or-death decisions that could affect the whole world.
The books, written by Rick Riordan, were an international success. They sold millions of copies and two of the stories have already been made into films. According to Disney, this series will be ‘closely aligned’ with the original books.
Who is starring in the show?
The lead role of Percy Jackson is set to be played by Walker Scobell. Scobell is a recent star, who made his film debut in the 2022 Netflix film The Adam Project. He starred alongisde Hollywood greats such as Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner and Zoe Saldaña. Scobell is also involved in Secret Headquarters which is set to be released in August 2022.
Percy’s best friends have also been cast. Grover Underwood is to be played by Aryan Simhadri from Disney+’s Cheaper By The Dozen. And Annabeth Chase will be portrayed by Leah Sava Jeffries, who has been in Empire.
No other cast members have been revealed to the public yet.
Where can I watch?
The show is set to be released on Disney+. However a specific date has not yet been announced.
Filiming is set to begin in the summer of 2022 in Vancouver, Canada.
