In a closing reel at CinemaCon Sony teased both Venom 3 and Ghostbusters 5 are in the works, and here’s all we know.
According to Variety, during Sony’s presentation at CinemaCon yesterday, Monday April 25, the studio revealed its plans for both sequels of the latest Ghostbusters instalment and a third Venom movie.

At CinemaCon, the annual trade show for theatre owners, Sony studio chief Tom Rothman introduced the reel while saying the company has ‘something for everyone’ coming in the future.
Sony showed a ‘mash-up’ reel which included ‘footage of the Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Kraven the Hunter, The Equalizer 3, never-before-seen clips from Tom Hanks’ A Man Called Otto‘, according to the publication.
Venom 3
An annoucement there would be a third Venom movie can’t come as much of a surprise considering the success of the first two Tom Hardy flicks – with the most recent only being released in October 2021.
The first movie, which came out in 2018, raked in $213.5 million domestic and an impressive $856 million worldwide from a $100 million budget. The second, Venom: Let there be Carnage, had identical numbers at the US domestic box office ($213.5 million) but suffered on the international front with a worldwide haul of only $502 million from a reported $102 million budget.
According to Superhero Hype, Venom 3 will pick up after the events of the second movie and, of course, Hardy will reprise his role as Eddie Brock aka Venom. The publication said there are no definite decisions at this time, but Andy Serkis has ‘expressed a willingness to return’ to direct the third movie after his stint at directing the most recent in the franchise.
Ghostbusters 5
After a not-so-successful 2016 all-female reboot of Ghostbusters the studio has seemingly got it right with the most recent release, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Directed by Jason Reitman the movie is set decades after the original 1984 movie – featuring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis – and centres around the grandkids of Dr. Egon Spengler.
And just like the Venom movies, with it’s success it’s not shock Sony want to jump on it further for a sequel. The movie raked in $129.3M at the US domestic box office and $197.3M worldwide after a Thanksgiving release, taking the franchise’s global worth to $938.2M.
However, at CinemaCon no talent attachments were revealed for this and little is rumoured about the direction the movie will go in.
