Armed Forces Day Explained And Deals Available For Service Personnel

Armed Forces Day is here, a day giving people the chance to show support to the people who make up the Armed Forces community this includes many companies offering deals for service personnel.

What is Armed Forces Day?

Armed Forces Day within the UK is an annual event celebrated on the last Saturday in June. This year Armed Forces Day is celebrated today, June 25.

The aim of Armed Forces Day is to commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces. The day celebrates active and former service personnel, those who are in the reserves, National Guard or on active duty.

The event was originally referred to as Veterans’ Day which was first celebrated in 2006.  The first event was announced by Gordon Brown who was at the time the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The name was changed to Armed Forces Day in 2009.

Armed Forces Day Deals

Many companies offer discounts to members of the Armed Forces all year long, but for Armed Forces Day Toby Carvery’s across the country are offering a free standard Toby carvery, breakfast, or main meal. This is the fifth time the company has offered this deal in order to show their support to the veterans and active personnel.

According to The Echo, in June 2019, more than 5,000 military personnel headed out to their local Toby Carvery to take up the offer of a free meal.

Stagecoach is also offering free travel for military and ex-military personnel this weekend. The travel will be free on Stagecoach buses across the UK for serving personnel wearing their uniform, carrying a military ID card and for veterans carrying a medal or veteran’s badge. This has been an annual tradition for the company since 2015.

How can you celebrate Armed Forces Day?

You could also express your support for past and present British Armed Forces by uploading a photo or video of yourself or others within your life on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #SaluteOurForces.

If you have an armed forces personnel or a veteran within your life or family history you could share a photo of them and thank them for their services on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, ensuring to tag armed forces day.

You could also join in at home or at an event by flying your own Armed Forces Day flag, bunting, hand-wavers, or banners. It is easy to demonstrate that you support the armed forces past and present.
