Who is Sophie Kinsella?
Kinsella is an author, and she’s been writing for a long time. She originally published novels under her real name, Madeleine Townley. She began writing when she was 24, and her books were successes back then.
After that, she decided to adopt the pseudonym Sophie Kinsella. The first book she wrote under that name was The Secret Dream World of a Shopaholic, also known as Confessions of a Shopaholic. The book was an instant success and is still just as successful today, despite being published in 2000.

If you haven’t yet heard of Confessions of a Shopaholic, here’s a rundown. It’s about a financial journalist called Becky Bloomwood. She lives in London with her friend and she loves to shop. She actually loves to shop a bit too much. Despite being a financial journalist, Becky can’t actually control her own finances. Her financial misdemeanours send her on plenty of funny stories that will make you love her.
She’s a relatable character and the people around her are great to the plot too. It’s a very Bridget Jones’ Diary type of book. There is love, London and plenty of shopping! I think that the reason this book was so successful is because it’s certainly one of a kind. It has a unique twist and was one of the stand-alone books that has a strong female lead, quite like Bridget Jones. The book was such a success that it was made into a movie starring Isla Fisher in 2009.
Kinsella is still adding to her Shopaholic series. Some titles include Shopaholic Abroad (2001), Mini Shopaholic (2010), and Christmas Shopaholic (2019). Kinsella also publishes other books outside of her well-known series. She often writes chick-lit and has produced some great romance novels that will leave you feeling wholesome.
