Best Freshers Week Events in Sheffield

Caitlin Hart August 22, 2022

Choosing freshers week events to go to in a city you don’t know can be tricky. There is no way of knowing what is worth the visit and what you need to skip. Luckily we have compiled Sheffield’s best events for every night of freshers week so you know exactly where to head.

Monday 19th – Monday Corp

Start your freshers week as you mean to go on, with Monday Corp. A regular club night every week at Corporation (known as Corp), Sheffield’s rock/pop-punk venue. Monday Corp offers three rooms, one rock, one hip hop and one dance so there is something for everyone. Make sure to try one of the coloured pints, they’re £4.50 each and will keep you going for most of the night.

Tuesday 20th – Wonderland at Code

Wonderland (also known as 90p night) at Code is a freshers week must. 90p drinks and two floors of dance music, it’s a great way to kick off your freshers week without breaking the bank. Code has a reputation in Sheffield for being a ‘freshers club’ so you will most likely be around plenty of other first years.

Wednesday 21st – ROAR at Foundry

If you are a Uni of Sheffield student, you will probably end up at ROAR most weeks. ROAR takes place every Wednesday at Foundry, which is in Uni of Sheffield’s students union. It is the place to be for society socials and almost everyone you know will be there with their own societies. There is a weekly theme and, for freshers week, it is animal themed so be sure to throw on your finest animal print clothes.

Thursday 22nd – Club Tropicana at The Leadmill

Leadmill is Sheffield’s ultimate indie club and hosts regular gigs as well as club nights. Club Tropicana, an 80s themed night, takes place once every couple of months and is not to be missed. There will be cheesy 80s tunes, buckets of cocktails and Hawaiian shirts everywhere you turn. Be sure to pick up a Leadmill card from behind the bar, they are just £4 (or sometimes free during freshers week) and will get you the cheapest drinks deals for the whole year. Who can say no to £1.20 shots and £2 doubles?

Friday 23rd – West Street

For a taste of the typical Sheffield night out, ditch the ticketed events on Friday and head down West Street. West Street is home to some of Sheffield’s most popular bars/clubs and with no entry fees it is perfect for a crawl. Start at Molly Malones before heading to Tigerworks or West Street Live. Be sure to end your night in Bierkeller for dancing on the tables and steins of cocktails. Want to keep going after 4am? Sheffield’s gay clubs Dempsey’s and Queer Junction are just a short walk away and open until 6am.

Saturday 24th – Poptarts at Foundry

Another weekly classic at Foundry is Poptarts, the student union’s weekly cheesy pop club night. Expect all the cheesy classics from ABBA to Queen, as well as your favourite 2010s tunes.
