Since 2003, across 19 seasons, The Ellen Show has been watched by millions of people worldwide. With guests ranging from Barack Obama and Oprah to a kid that can name every planet in the solar system, this show had it all.
Sadly, The Ellen Show is coming to an end this year. So, to commemorate, here are some of the best moments from throughout the seasons.
Kristen Bell’s meltdown over sloths
Back in 2012, on season 9, Kristen Bell shared her absolute adoration for sloths. She goes on to show the audience a video of herself crying on a bed, after her husband surprised her with a real life sloth for her 30th birthday.
Ellen then teases Bell, pretending to motion to someone to bring out a sloth for her to meet. This sends Bell into a self-titled ‘full-fledged panic attack’. Ellen reveals it is a prank, but with Bell already in tears, it may be too late. This amazing clip has over 30 million views.
In a different episode, Ellen does bring a sloth to meet Kristen.
Sophia Grace and Rosie
In 2011, Ellen had two young British girls on her show as a result of a viral video they created. Sophia Grace, eight years-old at the time, was singing along to Nicki Minaj’s ’Super Bass’ while Rosie, only four years-old then, stood next to her cousin and danced. Sophia Grace made an impact on the show with her outlandish personality.
In true Ellen style, Nicki Minaj was brought out to meet the two girls and sing her hit song with them. That video itself went viral, currently standing at 146 million views.
The two girls returned to The Ellen Show this year for the final season and recreated thier version of ’Super Bass’.
The ‘Apparently Kid’
Noah Ritter became the ‘Apparently Kid’ after a video of him repeating the word ‘apparently’ on his local news went viral. Of course, a viral video almost certainly got you a ticket onto The Ellen Show, especially in 2014. The original news video has 60 million views.
Ritter appeared on the show to talk about the viral video. He quickly captured the audience’s hearts and subsequently appeared on the show several more times.
Scaring Taylor Swift
During season seven of the show, Ellen was in her element. One of her best segments included scaring her guests. Whether that was by having one of her crew jump out from a desk, dress up as a clown or even have them drop from the ceiling (poor Sarah Paulson).
But on this occasion, Ellen decided to do the scaring herself. She sat in Taylor Swift’s dressing room bathroom and waited for the country singer to come in. The prank was successful, however Swift lost her footing after being scared and fell to the floor with some power. However, she was a good sport and sat on the bathroom floor, laughing with Ellen. This clip has 2.2 million views on YouTube.
Taylor Swift has been on The Ellen Show multiple times throughout the years. One other viral moment from Swift came in 2012 when she was on the show with Zac Efron. The two ended up singing an original song about the show to the tune of ‘Pumped Up Kicks’. That video has 47 million views and is definitley worth a watch.
Ellen’s Engagment
It was only in 2008 when gay marriage was legalised in California. After this, Ellen announced on her show that she was engaged to actress Portia de Rossi, whom she had been dating for three years prior to their engagement.
After their wedding, Ellen made an emotional speech about that day, showing pictures of Portia and herself on her show. This video has 24 million views.
Ellen DeGeneres recieved aggressive backlash after she came out in 1997 with her Time magazine cover reading, ‘Yep, I’m gay’. Her sitcom was cancelled and some turned against her. So, the fact that she was ultimately able to have her own chat show for almost two decades and talk happily about her marriage, is an amazing feat.
