Disclaimer: Spoilers below
With the final episodes of Better Call Saul just releasing, this review will look back on the first half of season 6.
Fans of the masterpiece Breaking Bad are certain to adore Better Call Saul, which serves as a prequel spin-off series. This will be especially true for season 6, which draws even closer to joining the bridge that links Jimmy McGill, AKA Saul Goodman, with the sleazy and conniving criminal lawyer Breaking Bad fans know and love.
As the monochromatic flash forwards teased in the preceding season indicate, the final half of season 6 will likely reveal the true conclusion for Saul Goodman’s story post Breaking Bad. As we’ve already seen, the aftermath of Heisenberg’s demise has left Saul scrabbling for a new identity and means to escape his past that appears to haunt him.

Two classics meeting
As the show draws closer to its conclusion, the sense of nostalgia will only increase as the plot comes full circle, colliding with that of Breaking Bad. I have no doubt the second half of season 6 will fulfil the wants of its audience, while distinguishing Better Call Saul as a masterpiece to stand, in its own right, alongside its predecessor.
Season 6 continues to emphasise the brilliance of Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan’s writing. Each episode is truly gripping. The season shines in that it perfectly balances character screen time.
It kicks off with a heavy focus on Nacho’s struggles to evade the vengeance of the Salamancas after his betrayal of Lalo.
The season then returns to Saul and Kim’s scheme against Howard, as they fall further into moral decline.
Meanwhile, Gus and Mike learn of Lalo’s escape from the assault on his residence that concluded season 5. With limited intelligence on his whereabouts, the pair gamble on his intentions and attempt to lure him to Gustavo’s home.
All the while, Lalo continues his investigations into Gustavo’s plans to dominate the meth industry with his super lab (which will eventually be used by Walt and Jesse in Breaking Bad).
Each plot thread comes crashing together in the mid season finale, which will undoubtedly leave viewers in shock and excited anticipation for what’s still to come.
