Everyone wants to know about Brampton Manor after the academy went viral when 90% of its students achieved A* A-Level grades.
On August 18, students all over England and Wales collected their A-level results. As expected, most people’s Twitter timelines were filled with excited pupils, proud parents, and the obligatory Jeremy Clarkson tweet about how he didn’t do well in his exams but is now extremely rich.
This year, however, throughout the day I began to notice a steady stream of pictures of students from Brampton Manor, holding up their results outside the school. Nearly all of them had received at least two or three A*s, with others showing off a whopping four.
The students have made headlines for their impressive grades, and an overwhelmingly large amount of Oxbridge offers have been made to the sixth form pupils.
Over 400 Brampton Manor students receive straight As
This year, four hundred and thirty Brampton Manor students received straight A*/A grades at A-level. Even more impressive is the fact that 185 students received three or more A*s grades, whilst over 95% of the entire cohort are progressing to Russell Group universities.
On August 20th, Brampton Manor confirmed on Twitter that 92 of their students have been given Oxbridge offers.
They wrote: ‘We are extremely delighted for these students and all the others in this cohort, who now have exciting futures to look forward to. Congrats to you all.’
Executive Principal Dr Dayo Olukoshi OBE said that they are ‘exceptionally proud’ of what their students have achieved.
‘They have shown incredible resilience and determination to ensure the disruption experienced over the past couple of years has not halted their path to success. We passionately believe there is no limit to what our students can achieve with sufficient effort and determination,’ Dr Olukoshi said.
What is Brampton Manor?
Brampton Manor Academy is a secondary school and sixth form situated in East Ham, London.
The school’s determined admissions arrangements for entry into the sixth form states that the minimum qualification for entry is a GCSE grade 7 or higher in all subjects the pupil intends to study at AS level. Furthermore, they must have a grade point average of at least 6.5 across all GCSEs studied (with a minimum of eight GCSEs), at a minimum of a grade 5 in English Language and Mathematics.
However, the website states that this is just the minimum criteria and where courses are oversubscribed, higher actual GCSE grades may be required in order to secure a place.
The school is ranked Outstanding by Ofsted, and was quoted by Boris Johnson as an example of levelling up, as it ‘now sends more kids to Oxbridge than Eton.’
Dr Olukoshi explains on the website that the curriculum consists of a ‘rich blend of academic and vocational qualifications’ which are supported by learning resources such as a theatre, TV and recording studios, sports and fitness facilities, and ‘generously equipped’ classrooms, workshops, and laboratories.
