While most people learned to bake or picked up a musical instrument, Bridgerton star Simone Ashley taught herself to how to be a tattoo artist during lockdown.

While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday, March 28, the 26-year-old said it was ‘surprisingly easy’ get into tattooing which she did to herself – and apparently some cast-mates – after picking up the skill in 2020.

Simone’s COVID Lockdown Skills

The actor told Kimmel her at-home tattoo journey started when she was quarantining in Los Angeles at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Simone explained she was over the banana bread and tie-dye shirts trends and needed something new.

She then went on to tell Kimmel how it was ‘surprisingly easy’ to purchased the equipment needed. She said: ‘It’s surprisingly easy. I didn’t need an ID … I just clicked a button.’

Simone then explained how she taught herself the art of tattooing via videos online. She said: ‘I found this video, and it was like, ‘Oh, you can use this deodorant stick, it has a chemical reaction on the transfer paper. I was like, “Oh, this guy is using some really interesting stuff”.

‘Then I looked at the username, and it was called prisontattoo.com . . . there’s an inmate making videos in prison.’

The Bridgerton star then revealed she followed the instructions and tattooed an Egyptian sphinx on her inner left ankle. She has another tattoo on her opposite ankle, a horned animal skull, however, she didn’t disclose whether this was one she’d done herself or have been completed by a professional tattoo artist.

Tattoos for castmates

While speaking to Kimmel she said: ‘I’ve tattooed myself, I’ve tattooed cast mates I’ve worked with before.” But, she never revealed if it was any of her Bridgerton family who have had her artistic work.

Simone isn’t the only celeb to take up tattooing as a hobby – and brand their cast mates with their handy work. Back in 2016 Margot Robbie revealed she took up tattooing and even gave tattoos to her Suicide Squad cast mates. This was confirmed by Cara Delavigne when the model-turned-actor share the smiley face tattoos Robbie had given her on her toes.
