Get your spikes on and dig out that university vest – the legendary BUCS Indoor Athletics Championship is back for 2022.
Like many BUCS events, the annual indoor event was cancelled in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions, but athletes up and down the country will be delighted to know that the competition is scheduled to make a full return this February.
Location and Date
This year’s event will see athletes returning to Sheffield, the host of the last championships in 2020. All events will take place on or around the Indoor Athletics Track at The English Institute for Sport.
All events will be spread out between Friday the 18th and Sunday the 20th of February, with the Men’s 60M heat beginning proceedings at 13:00 on the 18th, right up until the Men’s 4 x 200M final which takes place at 16:40 on the 20th.
Events
Athletes of all abilities and styles will likely find the perfect event for them among the wide range on offer this year.
Each event is separated by Men and Women, with some also offering a separate Ambulant event. The full track list features: 60, 200, 400, 800, 1500 and 3000 plus 4 x 200 metre relays.
The field events include Triple Jump, Shot Put, Long Jump, Pole Vault and High jump.

Where you can watch
Due to the lack of available seating in the venue, and to limit the risks posed by COVID-19, in-person spectators are not encouraged to attend, say BUCS.
However, fear not, spectators will still be able to tune in – as the whole weekend will be streamed live on the BUCS YouTube channel.
Potential Winners
Of course, the question on everyone’s minds is which Universities will be the big winners next weekend, and who can take those crucial BUCS points back to campus?
If last weekend’s Cross Country championships are anything to go by, Birmingham, St Mary’s and Loughborough may all be in with a chance after winning all four of the Men’s and Woman’s races. Of course, host university Sheffield Hallam will also be looking to leave a mark on their home turf.
With so many events, including shorter distances like the 60M where anything can happen, the BUCS indoor crown could really be heading anywhere on the 20th of February.
