If you’re in Cardiff and want to embrace all that the festive season has to offer, look no further. Cardiff has no shortage of Christmas and holiday themed events: there are enough to keep you entertained for days. While it’s impossible to try everything, even for the most festive among us, here are some of the best events in Cardiff that you won’t want to miss.
Christmas at Bute Park
Once again, Bute Park will be decked out with lights and decorations galore to celebrate the season. This year’s light trail promises to be even more magical than last year’s. The trail will be open from November 24 to January 2, and tickets are available now. Last year’s trail sold out quickly, so if you want to go then don’t hesitate to book.
Big Tent at Cardiff Castle
This year, a one of a kind Spiegeltent (hand-crafted pavillion with mirrors and leaded glass) will be set up on the castle grounds. The tent seats 570 and is offering a range of performances, from family-friendly entertainment to ballet to cabaret.

Cardiff Christmas Market
Cardiff Christmas Market is already open for the festive season, and there’s plenty of cheer to go around with music and delicious smells filling the air around town. If you’re looking for a bite to eat, you have plenty of options to choose from. Carvery, German sausages, and mac and cheese are a few of the savoury options, while hot pancakes and welsh cakes are available for those with a sweet tooth. The market also has a great selection of goods to buy as gifts or treat yourself, including art, textiles, accessories, decor and more.
The Santa and Elf Dash
This charity run is raising money for Calon Heart Screening, which provides resources including free CPR and defibrillator training, heart screening, and increasing the number of defibrillators in Welsh communities. Dress up in festive garb and run (or walk) off those winter calories for a life-saving cause. The run will be taking place in Cardiff Bay on December 4.
St Fagans
St Fagans National Museum of History is offering a number of festive events. You can take a course on how to make Christmas willow wreaths, have a festive afternoon tea for two, or listen to some carols in the chapel.
These are the best Christmas events in Cardiff and we’re sure that, if you can make any of them, it will be the perfect start to the festive period.
