The best bit about summer at university is sitting out in the sun with a few cold drinks. Whether it’s in your accommodation grounds, the local student filled park, or a beer garden, there is no denying that the atmosphere is unmatched. When you’re getting bored of the endless tinnies, or the cheapest lager you could find in the corner shop, here are some cheap summer cocktail recipes to make the hot days all the more enjoyable.
Corona Sunrise
The TikTok cocktail of Summer 2021 is still one of the best, cheap cocktails for a summer’s day. Simply crack open a Corona and pour away the first third (we recommend drinking it, we don’t like to see good drinks wasted). Then fill with a shot of tequila, orange juice, and a splash of grenadine to sweeten it up.
Ingredients:
- Bottle of Corona
- 25ml Tequila
- Splash of Orange Juice
- Splash of Grenadine

Sex on the Beach
A fruity cocktail that is so simple to make. Sex on the Beach is a summer classic that you most likely already have some of the ingredients for. Simply add vodka, peach schnapps and orange juice to a glass with ice. The pour cranberry juice over the top to create that gradient look.

- 50ml Vodka
- 25ml Peach Schnapps
- Orange Juice
- Cranberry Juice
Tropical Rumbull
Our budget take on one of Revolution’s most popular cocktails. Simply add spiced rum, lime juice and grenadine to a Tropical Redbull and ice. To make the authentic version, add the ingredients to a cocktail shaker along with some mango puree, but who has the time for that?
Ingredients:
- Can of Tropical Redbull
- 50ml Spiced Rum
- Splash of Lime Juice
- Splash of Grenadine

Mango Monster Mash
This classic Wetherspoons pitcher is not only refreshing and summery but provides a burst of energy. Simply combine a Mango Loco Monster can with vodka, Malibu (or Aldi’s cheap budget version) and lemonade.

- 25ml Vodka
- 25ml Malibu
- Splash of Lemonade
Pina Colada
If you want to up your cocktail game whilst sticking to a budget, Pina Colada is the ultimate choice. Blend pineapple juice, white rum and coconut cream with ice, or if you don’t have a blender shake together in a cocktail shaker. Fruity and tropical but still so simple.
