The early 90’s/2000’s produced a lot of great childhood films. In fact, there are so many it’s impossible to remember them all. So to jog your memory, here’s a list of childhood films you forgot about. Warning: they’re guaranteed to induce nostalgia.
Racing Stripes
A film where the underdog happens to be a zebra. We follow Stripes on his intense journey to become a racehorse. It’s a feel good film with talking animals. What’s not to love?
Penelope
A modern day fairytale in which the princess has the nose of a pig. Her aristocratic family hid her away from the world in shame. I remember thinking: Why can’t she just get a nose job?.
Hotel for Dogs
A very unrealistic story where two poor foster kids create a fully functioning hotel for dogs in the centre of Los Angeles.
Bingo
Bingo, a runaway circus dog, changes the life of the young Chuckie for the best. Filled with mischief and adventure, this film should not be forgotten!
Recess: School’s out
You may have forgotten about the Recess gang entirely. The group splits up for summer to go to different summer camps, leaving the leader T.J. at home. His uneventful break soon turns interesting as he discovers an evil scheme is brewing at the school.
The Aristocats
The Aristocats is a classic Disney film following a group of cats on a journey from danger. We encounter quirky and charming characters along the way. As well as some catchy songs, you’ll definitely remember ‘Everybody wants to be a cat’.
Hook
Everybody remembers Peter Pan, but what about Hook?. The grown up Peter Pan returns to Neverland to save his children and defeat his long-time nemesis Captain Hook.
Beethoven
Another childhood film you probably forgot about. The big and boisterous St Barnard, Beethoven, finds his way to the Newton family. Turning their lives upside-down and teaching them important lessons.
Drop Dead Fred
Elizabeth, an unhappy housewife, is visited by her childhood imaginary friend Fred. He initially only adds mayhem to her life but, as the film progresses, she’s forced to confront hidden parts of herself.
Casper
I bet you forgot about Casper the friendly ghost. This sweet young ghost lives in an abandoned mansion. When a ghost communicator and his daughter move into the house, he befriends them. As we find out more about Casper, you can’t help but love him.
