Christina Ricci is returning to her Adams Family roots as she’s set to join the cast of the upcoming Netflix and Tim Burton series Wednesday.
Adams Family fans will be thrilled to learn the 42-year-old actor will be joining the series, which is – we all know – guaranteed to be a bit weird with Tim Burton at the helm.
What We Know About Wednesday
The new Netflix series is said to be a coming-of-age comedy, starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams during her years at Nevermore Academy. It’s described as a ‘sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery’.
The eight-episode series will follow Wednesday attempt to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago – all while navigating new and very tangled relationships.
The series is written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar and directed by Burton – who’s known for his outlandish and creepy productions including; The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissor Hands, and The Corpse Bride.
In addition to Ortega, Ricci is going to be starring alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones as matriarch Morticia Addams and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams.
Burton won’t be working alone on giving it a fun creepy edge – he’ll be reuniting with Danny Elfman to write a new score for the show.
Elfman and Burton worked together for nearly 40 years now and have workedon Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Mars Attacks!, Sleepy Hollow, Planet of the Apes, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows, Frankenweenie, Big Eyes and Dumbo – to name a few.
Ricci Returns To The Family
It was confirmed by Deadline Ricci would be joining the cast of Wednesday, as a ‘series’ regular’. However, the studio is keeping it tight under wraps who she will be taking playing in the show.
One thing we do know is Ricci will be taking on the role of a whole new character.
Why it’s a huge deal Ricci will be starring in the show is back in the Barry Sonnenfeld-directed 1990s era of the franchise of films during which the star played Wednesday Adams – basically, she’s practically on OG.
There’s no specific release date for Wednesday, yet, but it has been stated the series will drop this year.
