French pop singer Chris, known professionally as Christine and the Queens, has revealed to his fans that he has been going by male pronouns and living as a man for some time.
After posting a three-minute video on TikTok the singer told his audience, in French, how he has been living as a man ‘for a year now, a little more officially in my family and in my relationship. It is a long process.’
He subsequently updated his pronouns to ‘he/him’ on all social media platforms.
Chris, who identifies as pansexual, told his fans in 2021 that he goes by all pronouns. However, in an interview with The New York Times he revealed that his journey with gender ‘has always been tumultuous.’
Christine and the Queens
Chris is set to release the band’s third studio album on September 23, entitled Redcar les adorables étoiles. This album will still be released under the name ‘Christine and the Queens presents Redcar’.
The album will include the critically-acclaimed single Je te vois enfin.
The band’s two previous albums, Chaleur humaine and Christine and the Queens and Chris, were given outstanding reviews. And the latter album was placed in the top spot in 2018 for number-one album by several publications including The Independent and The Guardian.
Christine and the Queens’ Musical Influences
Chris has made it known that he ‘does not want to choose between French music and English pop music’ and instead takes influences from both cultures.
People have labelled his music as indie pop or experimental pop but Chris describes his work as ‘freakpop’.
In an interview with Brain Magazine in November 2013, he cited his musical influencers as David Bowie, Kendrick Lamar, Christophe and T. Rex.
He labelled his favourite singer as Michael Jackson and ‘either Patti Smith or Kate Bush’ as his favourite female singer.
