There are so many classic songs that have gone past their moment of glorious fame in the timeline of tunes. A variety of classic music just doesn’t get the same recognition as they did, and it is time to put them back into the spotlight. Here are my top five songs that many 21st century kids underrated.
1. More Than A Woman by The Bee Gees
With such a recognisable chorus, this pop song gained fame as the soundtrack for the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever. More Than A Woman had well-deserved success in the seventies but where has this classic banger gone? You may hear this occasionally on the radio but never on the club playlist. This chorus truly makes anyone feel more than a woman with its steady beat and strings in the background, bringing an ambience of happiness to anyone listening.
2. I’m a Believer by The Monkees
Everyone knows the chorus to I’m a Believer courtesy of Smash Mouth’s amazing cover in Shrek. But the origins track by The Monkees often gets overlooked. The sixties sound on The Monkees’ original recording brings a lighter tone to this sweet song which contrasts Smash Mouth’s fun, electronic cover. If Smash Mouth has opened your eyes to this song, then venture into the world of The Monkees and investigate their vast array of tunes.
3. (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin
Aretha Franklin is one of the biggest names in American Soul music. Everyone recognises her iconic voice and at least one of her songs. However, I haven’t met many people who notice the excellence of A Natural Woman. Usually featured in movies, or on your parents’ playlist, this song has the ability to make you feel 50 emotions at once. Pop this classic song on when you’re getting ready or even in the shower and appreciate it in all its glory.
4. Road Rage by Catatonia
Catatonia is a band that I never hear much about. These Welsh icons came about in the ninties focusing on alternative/ indie rock. With this edgy sound, Catatonia released one of my favourite songs, Road Rage, in their 1998 album International Velvet. This moody piece with angry undertones makes anyone want to jump up and sing at the top of their lungs. With a strong chorus, I can personally confirm it’s great to sing as loud as you can while making dinner.
5. Elenore by The Turtles
One of my all-time favourite songs is Elenore by the pop group The Turtles. You may recognise The Turtles from their fame from their most favourite song Happy Together. But, although Happy Together is a fantastic tune, do not underestimate Elenore. This song makes me want to put on my flares and circle sunglasses and dance in a field of daisies. Elenore will very easily make you feel like the main character of a sixties romance.

They often end up in movies and don’t get the proper recognition they deserve.
