The trailer for Black Adam is here, but with his complicated antihero nature fans are wondering if he’s actually a villain.
More than a decade since Dwayne Johnson first stated his want to play the character and after the long tumultuous journey, DC dropped the trailer revealing the full extent of his powers.
Black Adam Trailer breakdown
In the opening shot of the trailer, a ship is seen coming in for a landing over some snow-covered mountains and it’s assumed Black Adam, real name Teth Adam, is the one inside – especially as the next scene shows The Rock’s character on some kind of medical table.
Views then flick to our first look at Pierce Brosnan) as Dr Fate, who leads the Justice Society of America team – made up of him, Atom Smasher, Hawkman and Cyclone – as they welcome Black Adam to modern-day, and Hawkman lets him know his thoughts on killing people saying: ‘Heroes don’t kill people.’ To which Black Adam replies: ‘Well, I do.’
Fate then tells him he can either save the world or be the one to end it – so, is Black Adam a villain?
Is Black Adam A Villain?
Black Adam is no newcomer to the comic book DC universe, in fact, he started life way back in the golden age of 1945 and, like Joke to the Batman, he was intended to be a one-off enemy for SHAZAM that turned into his arch-nemesis.
The Rock’s character has god-like powers similar to that of Superman and SHAZAM. He has a phenomenal level of super strength that enables him to lift 100,000 tons effortlessly, he can effortlessly bend steel, punch through walls and lift massive objects.
In the trailer, it shows he can fly and move almost as quickly as the Flash, as he moves quick enough to stop a rocket missile.

According to the description given by DC Comics, Black Adam is ‘an ancient wielder of magic, both a hero and a villain over his thousands-years-long life. He believes that he is the right person to lead humanity and that he is the solution to the greater good of the world, but has allowed his power to corrupt him over the many years of his life’.
Is he a villain? Well, he was originally a power-hungry villain who wanted to destroy everything in his path, but it seems now he’s becoming more of an antihero – think Marvel’s Deadpool, a character who is ultimately good overall, but sometimes does bad things to get there, like kill people.
