Ever since Glee first aired in 2009, it has been subject to endless controversies. Even though the show ended in 2015, the on-screen and behind-the-camera goings on are still very much at the forefront of many people’s minds. Now, it seems as though all will come to light, in a docuseries set to air on Discovery+.

What Is The Glee Documentary About?

According to Deadline, the streamer has ordered the creation of a three-part docuseries from Ample Entertainment, detailing the ‘highs and the lows’ as told by past cast and crew members.

The docuseries is also said to include interviews with close friends and family, sharing ’never-heard-before stories’. People speculate that these many provide an insight into the deaths of cast members Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera and Mark Salling.

The Glee docuseries is as yet untitled and has not revealed a release date.

What Glee Controversies Could Be Explored In The Docuseries?

The show dealt with topics such as racism, bullying and sexuality when these were not mainstream issues. As a result, the show went on to gain a following of those who found themselves represented.

Glee did not always hold up to its apparent wokeness, with many scenes now reading as insensitive or just plain wrong.

From their white, cis, straight, male choir teacher Will Schuester announcing ‘we’re all minorities’ to Rachel sending Quinn to an active crack house, with no consequences, this show really has a lot to answer for.

If you haven’t seen the show, then all it takes is a quick Google search and you will find compiliation after compilation of the most mind-boggling scenes. There was even a long thread posted on Twitter in May 2022 of Glee’s ‘most unhinged moments’, which recieved over 200,000 likes.

There were many claims of controversy behind the camera as well. The late Naya Rivera accused lead actress Lea Michele of creating a toxic work environment. Amber Riley also said that the Glee set was ’not the most comfortable environment’ to work in.
