Does Lightyear Have A Post-Credit Scene?

You may be used to the signature post-credit scenes in the Marvel cinematic universe, but Pixar has now adopted the notion. The highly anticipated Lightyear has not one, not two, but three post-credit scenes for us to enjoy.

While the premise of this film is your normal intergalactic mission impossible, there is something different about this whole film.

Lightyear is said to be the one that Andy watched back in 1995, prompting him to get a Buzz Lightyear toy. This is Buzz Lightyear’s origin story, yes. But it is a film that is said to be within the Toy Story outer universe, as Andy watched it.

Plot

The story follows Buzz Lightyear, Space Ranger in Star Command, as he accidentally strands himself and other space rangers on Tikana Prime, a new planet. He tries to figure out the correct fuel formula strong enough to fly everyone back home. However, every test trip Buzz embarks on, whilst it is only minutes for him, is four years for his colleagues.

After one trip, Buzz comes back to find the planet has been taken over by robots. Lead by Emperor Zurg, the robots seems to be out to get Buzz and anyone who stands in his way. Along the way, Buzz meets Izzy Hawthorne, Mo Morrison and Darby Steel, who, whilst quite inept, become his family.

Post-credit scenes

*FILM SPOILERS*

The first post-credit scene, which actually occurs halfway through the first set of credits, sees Commander Burnside in his office drinking coffee. We witness a giant insect zapped by the forcefield around the compound, which amuses the commander.

The second scene goes back to a section from the film, where ERIC the robot is trying to figure out the best route out of the compound. He finally maps out the most efficient route, but comes to realises that everyone left quite a while ago.

The third and final scene sees Emperor Zurg’s armour floating in space. Just before the screen blacks out, the eyes on Zurg’s suit light up. Does this mean that it is not totally over?

Cast

Most people know the voice of Buzz Lightyear to be Tim Allen. However, in this installment, the Space Ranger is voiced by Chris Evans.

The voice of Buzz Lightyear’s best friend, Alisha Hawthorne, is Orange Is The New Black’s Uzo Aduba.

Hawthorne is a gay woman and engages in the first acknowledged same-sex kiss in a Pixar film. There has been controversy surrounding this, as the kiss was initally taken out of the film and subsequently put back in after uproar. Despite the kiss being less than a second long, 14 countries have banned the film from being shown, due to outright homosexuality being illegal in said countries.

Other notable cast members are Taika Waititi (JoJo Rabbit), Keke Palmer (Alice), James Brolin (Westworld), Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur) and Bill Hader (Superbad).
