Ed Sheeran Social Media Break
The 31-year-old English-born singer took to Instagram to explain to fans he’s taking a break from socials – but confirmed he would be back in 2023.
He posted a behind-the-scenes snap from the beach set of the promo, where he can be seen with his back to the camera, standing on a giant rock looking out at sea, along with the caption: ‘Signing off now until 2023. See you in the new year. Much love, Ed x’
The secret music video is to go with his new album which is due out next year, but he already completed it this year. He was spotted filming the visual in Suffolk and images of him hanging in mid-air from a ladder began circling.
According to the Mail “the set’s security guards attempting to brush off on-lookers by saying the camera crew were filming a TV advert for fish fingers”.
Ed Sheeran’s past social media breaks
This isn’t the first time Ed Sheeran has taken a step back from social media – in fact his current break will be his third social media hiatus since 2015.
In 2015 he took his first break from social telling saying: ‘One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it,’ according to The Sun.

Then in 2019, he announced he would be taking a second break from social media – this time an 18-month hiatus. At the time he told fans, via Instagram, he was off to travel, write and will return with more music.
He said: ‘I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.’ Of course, everything like travel came to a halt when the pandemic hit in 2020 and je actually returned to socials in 2020 to announce the birth of his daughter.
