Everything We Know About Princess Diaries 3

Add as preferred source on Google

Ever since the Princess Diaries hit our screens in 2001 (and subsequently 2004), we have been going back to rewatch them every single year. It is safe to say that two films are a firm cornerstone in many of our childhoods. Who wanted to stand on a mattress and surf down a slide after seeing Queen Clarisse do it? The answer is: everyone. So here is everything we know so far about the Princess Diaries 3.

Naturally everyone has been wanting this story to continue, and we are finally getting it.

On 15 November, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Disney have signed on for a third Princess Diaries film. It was revealed that the film will be a continuation of the narrative, rather than a reboot or reimagining

Aadrita Mukerji, whose work includes Quantum Leap, Supergirl and Reacher is heading the scriptwriting process.

In other good news, Debra Martin Chase, who also produced Princess Diaries 1 and 2, is producing the third installment. This will most likely make the three films feel more connected as they were all developed under the same person.

Who Will Be Starring?

It was only revealed a few weeks ago that there is a script in production. Due to these early stages in development, there has been no official casting announcements as of yet.

Anne Hathaway, who played Princess Mia Thermopolis has teased her return to the character before. In 2019, when asked about a third film, Hathaway responded, “I want to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen. It’s just we don’t want to unless it’s perfect, because we love it just as much as you guys love it. It’s as important to us as it is to you.”

One person who we can almost certainly rule out of returning, sadly, is Queen Clarisse herself. In 2022, when talking about reprising her role, Julie Andrews said “I think it would be too late to do it now… It’s a lovely thought, but I don’t think it would be possible.”

In 2016, Heather Matarazzo, who played Lilly Moscovitz said that “If Annie and Julie are down” then she would definitely come back for another film.

Finally, Mandy Moore, who played the mean head cheerleader, Lana spoke about where she would like to see her character. Talking to Elle in 2017, she said “If I’m going to be involved, I would be down for a cameo, maybe she could make amends with Mia and apologize for being a bully when she was younger.”

When Is The Princess Diaries 3 Out?

As with the casting announcements, due to the early nature of the project, we haven’t yet been given a release date. So, for now, get your ballgowns and tuxedos out of the loft, and get learning the Genovian national anthem!

That is everything we know about The Princess Diaries 3 right now. But you can bet there will be plenty of new information in the months ahead.
