Last week, Netflix made some dreams come true when announcing that Sex Education would be returning for series 4. Not only that, it’s welcoming an exciting new cast member.

New cast members

A tweet put out by Netflix read: ‘Sex Education Season 4 is officially in production. Welcome @danjlevy as Mr Molloy. (Yay, David!!)’

Dan confirmed the news by tweeting a photo of himself and Emma Mackey (Maeve Wiley) with the caption ‘Sex Ed. Season 4. VERY serious news.’

According to Variety, he will appear in a recurring guest star role as Thomas Molloy, a famous author and Meave’s US course tutor at her Ivy League College. Joining him are six other new series regulars, although we’re yet to know what their characters will be. They are Thaddea Graham, Marie Reuther, Felix Mufti, Anthony Lexa, Alexandra James, and Imani Yahshua.

Who is Dan Levy?

Dan Levy is a Canadian actor who shot to fame on Netflix sitcom Schitt’s Creek as David Rose. He’s also a writer, producer and TV presenter. Fans of both Schitt’s Creek and Sex Education are elated to have Dan Levy join the cast.

Who’s returning?

It was also announced that the returning cast would include Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson, Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee-Lou Wood, Emma Mackey, Connor Swindells, Kedar Williams-Sterling, Mimi Keene, George Robinson, Chineye Ezeudu, Dua Saleh, Allistair Petire and Samantha Spiro.

Despite the many new cast members, a lot of favourites are also moving on. Simone Ashley, who plays Olivia Hanan, announced back in April that her time on the show was coming to an end after bagging the role of Kate Sharma on Bridgerton.

Tanya Reynolds won’t be returning as Lily Iglehart and Patricia Allison won’t be returning as Ola Nyman – two much loved fan favourites. They announced their departures in July just a week apart.

Finally, most recently, Rakhee Thakrar who played school teacher Emily Sands sadly announced she won’t be in the new season.

The storyline

According to Variety, the storyline is as follows:

“In Season 4 of the popular series, following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis (Asa Butterfiield) and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) now face a new frontier – their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College.

“Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, whilst Eric is praying they won’t be losers again. But Cavendish is a culture shock for all the Moordale students – they thought they were progressive but this new college is another level.

“There’s daily yoga in the communal garden, a strong sustainability vibe and a group of kids who are popular for being… kind?! Viv (Chinenye Ezeudu) is totally thrown by the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach, while Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling) is still struggling to get over Cal (Dua Saleh). Aimee (Aimee-Lou Wood) tries something new by taking an Art A Level and Adam (Connor Swindells) grapples with whether mainstream education is for him.

“Over in the US, Maeve is living her dream at prestigious Wallace University, being taught by cult author Thomas Molloy. Otis is pining after her, whilst adjusting to not being an only child at home, or the only therapist on campus.”

Ruby and Otis?

Finally, fans have gone wild over the Instagram post by Netflix which, as well as introducing Levy, also featured Ruby and Otis. After their brief relationship in season 3 they quickly became fan favourites to be together and this teaser has given a lot of hope to #Rotis fans.

Do you ship Ruby and Otis?

While we don’t have a release date or trailer yet, from what we’ve seen so far I’m very excited for Sex Education Series 4.
