Everything You Need in Your Freshers' Week Survival Kit

Caitlin Hart September 15, 2022

Freshers’ week is always so much fun, but going on nights out for a week straight (or sometimes even longer) can take its toll on your body. Catching the infamous freshers’ flu is inevitable and you will probably get a little bit ill in your first few weeks. But stock the cupboards with our essentials kit and you’ll be feeling better in no time.

Berroca

A morning-after must-have for when you’re not feeling your finest. Berroca, or a supermarket own version, will re-hydrate you and pick you up after a long night. Pair with lots and lots of water and your hangover will start to wear off in no time so you are ready for the next night.

Paracetamol

You will most likely take it a little too far at least one night of freshers’ week. It is easily done and has happened to everyone. But waking up with a banging headache to accompany your embarrassment is less than ideal. Keep a packet at all times so you don’t have to dash to the nearest shop when you aren’t feeling your best.

Flat Shoes

Less about not getting ill and more about not being in pain, flat shoes are a must for freshers’ week. It’s rare that people at university go out in heels at all. Typically, it’s a pair of trainers that you don’t mind getting covered in spilled drinks. Definitely leave the heels at home, especially during freshers’ week. Your feet will thank you for it.

Good Food

University life, particularly freshers’ week, can be pretty hectic and it can be hard to find time to cook. While takeaways and Pot Noodles can be tempting, make sure you try to cook healthy meals as often as you can. Getting plenty of vegetables and protein will set your body up to fight freshers’ flu. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, a simple 10-minute meal like vegetable pasta or fajitas is perfect to ensure that you eat properly.
