There is no shortage of vampire love stories. From Twilight to The Vampire Diaries and then all the subsequent spin-off shows, there is more than enough vampire representation.
However, Netflix’s First Kill seems to have gripped fans immediatley and has them calling for a second season just days after its initial release.
What is First Kill?
First Kill sees a Romeo and Juliet-esque love story unfold. The Fairmont’s are Legacy vampires, meaning they were born vampires, not turned into them. Whereas the Burns are a family of vampire hunters, trained in combat, weapons and ultimately how to kill vampires.
But, when Calliope Burns and Juliette Fairmont fall for each other, will they be able to carry out their duties? Calliope’s family have been ordered to elimate all Legacy vampires, but can she kill the girl she loves?
After Juliette turns Theo Burns into a vampire to save his life, Jack Burns is ready to kill his own son. He says that Theo is no longer his child, as he has been turned into the one thing the was trained to kill. Taila tells Jack he can touch Theo ‘over [her] dead body’ and secretly takes Theo to Oliver Fairmont’s house, to be looked after.
If this isn’t enough of a cliffhanger, Calliope washes her hands of Juliette once she realises that Juliette has turned her brother into a vampire. The duo, who just last episode were ready to run away together, are now in stormy waters.
Fans just want to see those two crazy kids work it out. But, when family is on the line, neither of these girls can compromise.
Many fans have been taking to Twitter to ask why First Kill did not get the same promotion as Heartstopper did. Heartstopper, which follows the love story of two young white boys, was widely promoted on social media and on TV.
Whereas First Kill was only promoted by the cast through interviews which are mainly found on YouTube. Many fans think it was not promoted as well due to the show being led by two lesbians, one of whom is black. However this is obviously just a theory.
Despite this controversy, the show has done extremely well. After being released only two weeks ago, First Kill currently has a 90% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Fans are loving this wlw vampire representation and fingers crossed a second season is already in the works.
