Fans are calling for Netflix to renew Heartstopper for a second season by trending #RenewHeartstopper on Twitter.
The young adult show premiered on the streaming site just weeks ago on April 22 and since has become a huge hit, getting 9/10 on IMDB and even has a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ ‘Tomatometer’.
Fans Want More
In it’s short time out in the world fans have fallen deeper in love with the show than Nick and Charlie and now are calling out for a second season as #RenerHeartstopper is trending on Twitter.
What is Heartstopper?
For those who haven’t have the rightful pleasure of binge-watching all eight episodes, Heartstopper is based on the Alice Oseman graphic novel series of the same name. It follows the story of two Year 11 boys, Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson, who begin to develop romantic feelings for one another and the challenges they face along the way.
Shy and nerdy Charlie is the only openly gay student at an all-boys grammar school, making him the unfortunate target for homophobic bullies. He develops a crush on Nick – a rugby player he sits next to and turns out to have reciprocating feelings.
However, you may not know that the series started out as a Tumblr web comic before making the jump to the printed page after gathering a larger audience.
The programme shows the lives of gay, bisexual, and trans students in their struggle with bullies, friends, family and growing up, and it’s all-round a feel-good show.
Will there be a season two?
Ok, so Netflix hasn’t confirmed there will be a second season, when speaking to Pink News Patrick Walters, the show’s producer from See-Saw Films, said he would ‘love a second season’.
He said: ‘Oh yeah, we’d love a second season. I mean we have such amazing partners in Netflix and it really feels like they get the show and they understand the world we’re trying to deliver.
‘Given there are more books in the series there’s more source material to adapt. Alice and I are getting our thinking caps on and starting to think ahead now.’
