Sony announced a new Karate Kid movie would arrive in 2024 and fans think it may be connected to the hit Netflix series Cobra Kai.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Karate Kid movie franchise is getting a new lease of life as Sony’s Columbia Pictures has confirmed a new movie for June 2024.

The movie will be “the return to the original Karate Kid franchise” – which kicked off in 1984 with the original movie.
Since the OG movie, there have been three sequels, as well as a 2010 reboot starring Jaden Smith and the spin-off on Netflix which introduced a whole new generation to many members of the original cast.
Although details of the new movie are being kept under wraps one thing that’s been confirmed is it means the release dates of other Sony movies including Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter have been shifted.
Madame Web, a comic book movie set in the Spider-Man universe that stars Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, is moving from October 6, 2023, to February 16, 2024. Another Spider-Man universe film, the Aaron Taylor-Johnson Kraven the Hunter movie, is shifting to October 6, 2023, from January 13, 2023.
Karate Kid 2024 movie linked to Cobra Kai?
However, with a description saying the Karate Kid 2024 movie will “return to the original” franchise has prompted fans to theorise it will be linked to the Netflix hit Cobra Kai.
Now in its fifth season, the series is based over 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament with the continuation of the inescapable conflict between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).
Some fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts, with some saying they think Cobra Kai is “testing those cinematic waters”.
However, some fans would rather there wasn’t a movie connected to the series due to their love of the series.
