Finding Your Go-To Drink At University

Add as preferred source on Google

Going to University, with the number of pre-drinks, nights out, and afters you will be going to, you will get the chance to explore different drinks and ultimately find your favourite. Whether your choice is a vodka cranberry, gin and lemonade, or a pint of Guinness, trying different ones will ensure you find your absolute favourite.

People say that mixing drinks can lead to some of the worst hangovers in existence. This isn’t far from the truth. Yet some tips and tricks on what to mix, and what not to, will be a lifesaver after a night out.

Beer Before Wine

This is a little rhyme that will save you from having a heavier head the next day. If you mix these two drinks, rest assured it could hit you hard on the night or even the next morning.

Let the VK obsession begin

In my first couple of months at university, I was shocked how everyone on nights out, in the Student Union especially, would all have a VK in hand on the dance floor. The endless debates on which colour is better is something you will quickly become part of.

Personally, an orange VK is the obvious best choice, with blue barely being passable. Yet be warned: as you enjoy ordering more and more of these bottles of what taste like juice, you don’t realise how much you’re consuming.

Due to this sugary alcohol drink, waking up with a racy heart and ‘hangxiety’ can come with the territory. However, when you start down this slippery slope of ordering these cheap yet tasty drinks, it ends up being worth the feeling the next day.

Mixing shots

Finding your favourite shot can be a painful process. Yet doing this in the university environment and stumbling home to your dorm, instead of your family home, is the better route.

Those who can shoot straight vodka or sambuca have cast iron stomachs . Yet if you can’t, do not fear. The Corky’s and sours range are not only the cheapest of options but also some the tastiest. Mixing these rarely causes many issues. So, if you’re not someone who can shoot the hard stuff, fruity shots are always an option.

Jager bombs can be the most dangerous of shots. They are probably one of the easiest to drink. But again, a word of warning from an experienced Uni student like myself: regulate the number you have. Otherwise, the energy drink in turn with the Jager can make your heart feel like it’s working double time.

In conclusion

Overall, just remember to try everything to decide what you like. Don’t feel pressured to drink if you are sober. There are societies, and many people, who also choose sobriety.

If you do try all the different types of drinks a university bar has to offer, just be sure to drink responsibly, stay safe, and never leave your drink unattended. Or your wandering drunken friend for that matter.
