Winter is over and summer is on the horizon! The sun will soon be blazing down on us, so be sure to get your chic shorts and hats out of storage, blow off the dust and get ready to bask in the heat. Nothing gets you in the summer mood like a feel-good film, so here are five films sure to get you in the summer vibe.
Grown Ups (2010)
This 2010 classic is one of the best feel-good summer films you can find. From the hilarious mind of Adam Sandler, we see a group of high school friends come together after 30 years apart to celebrate the death of their late basketball coach. They spend the summer together, heading to a water park for a story full of twists, turns and laughs.
Grown Ups is littered with comedy legends from Maya Rudolph to Kevin James and Chris Rock. If you liked this film, you will love the 2013 sequel where the gang return for even more shenanigans.
The Parent Trap
The Parent Trap is a romantic comedy set between London and California. After twins, Annie and Hallie, separated just after birth, meet at summer camp, they come up with a genius idea. They decide to swap places in order to spend time with the parent they never got to know. No spoilers here, but, who could say no to a young Lindsay Lohan, let alone two of them?
Despite Meredith Blake’s shortcomings, she gets one thing right. Constantly seen lounging by, or in, the pool, Blake took full advantage of the California summer vibes, and we should too for one of the most awesome family films.

Mamma Mia (2008)
Mamma Mia is the ultimate Greek summer party film. When Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski and Julie Walters are brought together on a Greek paradise to resurrect their band and sing ABBA songs, you know you’re getting a great film.
The film follows Donna’s daughter as she invites her possible three fathers to her upcoming wedding, without telling her mother. Through ABBA classics, we see how Sophie’s mother deals with seeing her past partners and helping organise a wedding, all whilst managing a hotel.
The stunning aesthetic of this film is pure summer vibes. With a crystal clear ocean, clear skies and Greek buildings, what more do you need?
Letters To Juliet (2010)
Letters to Juliet sees a young American woman, Sophie, take a pre-honeymoon to Italy with her husband. However, as her fiancé becomes distant, Sophie discovers the ‘letters to Juliet’ in the Verona courtyard. These are notes sent to Juliet asking for help with love. When Sophie finds an unanswered letter, she takes it upon herself to find the author and reunite her with a lost love.
This quintessential Italian love story gives us everything we need, from beautiful landscapes of vineyards and mountains to delicious-looking cuisine.
Blended (2014)
We couldn’t have just one Adam Sandler film on this list, he is summer. With his on-screen wife, Drew Barrymore, the pair meet on a blind date which goes badly. Due to a set of random circumstances, they end up taking their families on a ‘blended familymoon’ to Africa.
Aside from the hilarity and awkwardness that occurs on the trip, we are shown stunning African wildlife and authentic African dances. If you want a great summer film from somewhere further afield, then Blended is the one for you.
