Five Tips For Students To Keep Your Uni House Clean

Add as preferred source on Google

It’s no surprise that uni houses are notoriously messy and a little dirty. Everyone’s come from different backgrounds and upbringings and now you’re all living together hoping it will all work out. But the only way to keep things up to scratch is to pull your own weight. Here are some tips to keep your uni house clean.

1. Split the work

Firstly, try splitting the work between you all. You can do this by sharing out the rooms of the house or just making a rota for different people to cover each chore every week. Some things to consider are the bins, cleaning the bathrooms, the kitchen worktops, the dining area and the lounge space.

It doesn’t have to be immaculate! But just clean up general bits between you all so that it’s fair. This is the same for buying the cleaning products – it’s a good idea to split the bill between you all. If you do this, it will be a lot easier to keep your uni house clean.

2. Regularly clean

Then try to clean it regularly! If you have a rota, this shouldn’t be a problem. But the rotas often get neglected mid-year. Stick to cleaning the house regularly so that the mess doesn’t build up. This will save you so much time in the long run, as you won’t have to do massive clear outs every time it gets too much.

3. Stock Up

Now that you’ve already got the cleaning products, make sure you keep stocked up. It’s a lot easier to wipe the kitchen down if there’s a pack of antibacterial wipes sitting on the side than it is if you have to go to the shop to buy more.

Keep your house stocked with essentials like kitchen roll, bathroom bleach, and antibacterial wipes and spray.

4. Clean up after you use something

Clean up after yourself. If you use something, leave everything tidy afterwards.

It might be a pain to wash up your dishes after you eat when all you want to do is get ready to go out or watch Netflix in bed, but it’s worth it. By cleaning up the little things, you won’t have to do it later. It also likely means that your housemates will all try to keep it tidy too. Once one person starts leaving rubbish around again everyone does! Try to stick to it.

5. Use candles and scents

Lastly, if you’re feeling a little more extra, treat yourself to a new candle or air freshener for the rooms. This will naturally keep the house smelling better, which is great if you have unexpected guests.

If you’re about to move into uni halls or housing, take these tips with you. It’s not always an easy adjustment, but you will get used to it.

Your house doesn’t have to be perfectly clean, but these tips will help keep it tidier.
