This weekend F1 fans will be treated to the debut of the Miami Grand Prix. We’ve all seen *THAT* picture of the fake marina in the grounds. But, hopefully, the circuit itself can live up to the expectations we have for the weekend. The Miami GP marks the second American racing weekend on the season calendar. But a few weeks ago a third American Grand Prix was announced to debut in 2023, the Las Vegas Grand Prix. F1 in America is taking over. Some fans feel that the sport is becoming ‘Americanised’, but let’s look at all we know so far about the Las Vegas GP.
What will the next American GP look like?
The Las Vegas strip will be hosting the drivers in 2023 for a high-speed race past iconic buildings. There is no date set yet for the Grand Prix. All we know is that it will be on a Saturday in November. It’s due to be a night race, so watching the drivers race down the iconic strip will certainly be a spectacle.
The race is estimated to run for over 50 laps as it’s a 6.12km track. It has three straights, a chicane and high-speed corners. It looks set to be an exciting race in America if the circuit plans are anything to go by!
Should F1 prioritise America?
But is F1 becoming ‘too American’? The success of Netflix’s docuseries ‘Drive to Survive’ has heavily influenced the volume of fans entering the sport. It’s an easily accessible watch and has rocketed the amount of F1 fans in America specifically. There’s only one F1 team on the grid, which is Haas, but it seems that F1 have finally cracked the American market. America is where the money is at for Formula 1, and some fans feel that the gravitation towards America is financially motivated.
F1 is an ever-growing sport with big-budget cars, teams, and drivers. The sport certainly suits the American lifestyle and the Las Vegas strip, but is the United States of America the place for more F1? Or should F1 become global?
