We all love spending the festive season with family, but there are fun and cheap ways to celebrate Christmas with friends too.

Lots of Christmas traditions start with family, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make some with your friends either. It can be cheap and cheerful but still as festive. If you’re stuck for ideas then we have some great options for you.

Cheap Ways To Celebrate Christmas With Friends

Everything is feeling the squeeze of the cost of living crisis at the moment. But that’s why it’s more important than ever to grab onto to fun and festive moments. Plus, enjoying yourself and making memories doesn’t have to empty the wallet. So, grab your besties and have a go at least one of the following.

Gingerbread decorating

You can either buy a ready-made kit from pretty much any supermarket or Amazon. If you’re feeling inspired by Bake Off, then you can always have a go at making yourself and add to the fun. However, if you’ve not got baker’s fingers, then shop-bought is absolutely fine.

EItherway, fetch some multicoloured icing, hundreds and thousands, edible glitter and stars and even some sugar balls. Whack on Band Aid or Boney M and gather all your friends around the dining table. Having a laugh at everyone attempting to decorate the gingerbread men is the perfect way to celebrate Christmas with friends. Put some tinsel on the table and even some Baileys if you fancy it.

Plus, you’ll have a tasty festive snack to reward all your hard work.

A Christmas Movie Marathon

Turn on the Christmas lights and get everyone underneath the blanket. Nothing says a festive evening than watching all your favourite Christmas films. Loads of the classics are available on Netflix or Amazon Prime so it won’t cost you any extra if you already have a subscription.

Get everyone to pick their favourite and watch as many as you can! If you’ve got a larger friend group then you may have to do it over a couple of nights, but that only spreads the festivities. You could even eat your gingerbread men whilst watching the film if you can resist the temptation to eat them earlier.

It’s a really easy way and cheap way to celebrate Christmas, particularly if you throw in a cheesy Christmas jumper or pair of pyjamas!

Visit Your Local Christmas Market

This one may only cost you the petrol to get there. It all depends on whether you can resist all the festive bits and bobs on offer. Wrap up warm and enjoy the blaring Christmas classics as you wander around taking in all the decorations. If you do want a little treat, then festive hot chocolate from an independent stall can never do you any wrong.

It’s a great opportunity for a festive selfie and to create some Christmas memories with friends.

Celebrate Christmas With Friends With A Secret Santa

It could be as well as your movie marathon and gingerbread decorating or a completely different festive occasion. This one will cost you a little money, but as long as you set a budget with your friends then it will still be great fun.

Even if it’s just £2, wrapping up the presents and passing them around will only add to to the festivities. No one will mind if the budget is a bit lower as it’s always the thought that counts. Anyway, everyone always loves the sneakiness of a Secret Santa!

If you really are stretched but still want the fun of a Secret Santa then re-gifting is a great option. Pick something of yours that you no longer use or you think could go to a better home and you’ve got yourself another free festive activity.
