University can be a daunting place to be in those first few weeks, especially if you don’t know anyone in your classes. One way to combat this is by jumping in at the deep end and trying to get to know those around you in the best way possible. These people could be your new best friends, your lifelong partners or maybe just nice people to be around for the duration of your university life. If you are stuck on how to get to know someone, here are some interesting and fun university icebreakers you can use to…break the ice.
Two Truths And A Lie
The best university icebreakers are often the classic and this is no exception. You have probably played this before, maybe even in high school as an early icebreaker. Just as the name suggests, you give the group three facts about yourself, where two are true and one is a lie. The aim of the game is to decipher which fact is the lie.
Two truths and a lie can be a fun way to learn a bit more about each person without simply asking them for a fact about themselves which can get boring.
People Bingo
If there is a group of new people who do not know each other, People Bingo is a really fun way to get everyone acquainted with each other.
Someone needs to create the bingo cards first and then distribute them out. Each card should have a grid, like a usual bingo card, however, instead of crossing out numbers, you will be crossing out statements that apply to you. Possible statements can be ‘has visited America’, ‘is allergic to something’ or ‘has a pet’, etc.
A teacher or student then reads off the statements and students cross off ones that are relevant to their lives.

Three Of A Kind
This game requires more face to face interaction than the previous two games, however it forces you to get acquainted with the people around you in a much quicker way.
The aim of the game is to find two other people whom you share something with. In the end, everyone should be in groups of three, with one fact connecting them.
To make it more interesting, try to make the similarity not something obvious such as a shared t-shirt colour.
Interesting Questions
If you do not want to engage in games, yet you do want to know more about your fellow classmates, here are a few interesting questions to ask.
- What is the last show you binge-watched?
- If you had to choose a different course at this university, which would you choose?
- What is the best food place from your hometown?
- Who is a role model to you?
- What job/career did you want when you were a child?
- Do you have a nickname? Why that name?
- What year of your life has been your favourite so far?
