Every year, it seems as though the Elf on the Shelf phenomena reaches more and more houses. And this Christmas those pesky elves were doing bigger and better activities each day! What Is Elf On The Shelf?
Each night during the month of December, Santa sends out his Scout Elves to homes so they can watch over children. They then fly back to the North Pole each night to report back to Santa on whether the children should be on the nice or naughty list.
The elves then return to the house in a different position, so the children can have fun finding them. Typically, the elves like to engage in mischievous acts during the night.
This encourages children to behave during the run-up to Christmas. It can also be used as an incentive to get children to think about their actions throughout the whole year, as they don’t want their Elves to tell Santa about their negative behaviour.
There are only two rules in regards to Scout Elves:
- You cannot move or touch an Elf, or else they will lose their magical powers.
- Elves do not move or speak while children are awake (how convenient *wink*).

The naughty elves seem to have found some spare wrapping paper and wrapped themselves up as presents. They have made quite the mess, but that is what elves do, so can we really blame them?
