Heartbreak High was originally an Australian show in the late 90s that followed a group of high schoolers. The modern reboot follows a similar principal, dealing with issues surrounding love, drugs, sex, trauma, sexuality and gender.
Heartbreak High Season Two
It’s no surprise that many people were asking: Has Heartbreak High been renewed for a second season. Then, on 19 October, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Netflix has indeed ordered more episodes following its massive success worldwide.
To highlight its international appeal, the topic “Heartbreak High” currently has over 13.4 billion views on TikTok.
According to Deadline, the show has been watched for more than 42.6 million hours in its first three weeks on Netflix. Additionally, it has reached the Top 10 list in over 43 countries and stayed firmly on the Top 10 list in Australia since its release.
When talking with The Hollywood Reporter, Heartbreak High’s producer Carly Heaton spoke about how she became overwhelmed by the show’s success.
“This is the first time an Australian scripted show has had the ability to go out on a platform globally like this,” she said.
“Netflix kept warning us, but I don’t think we were prepared for what that would be like. You know, kids finding my number and email and hitting me up with calls to tell me how much they love it. It’s been absolutely overwhelming, in the most delightful of ways.”
Who Is In Heartbreak High?
Ayesha Madon plays one of the shows lead characters, Amerie. Madon is new to the world of acting, only having appeared in one other TV show in 2020; The Moth Effect. However, she leads Heartberak High with comedy and heart, so she is sure to have a great career moving forward.
Amerie’s best friend, Harper is played by Asher Yasbincek. She is best known for her role as Rose in the sereies The Heights. Yasbincek was part of the series for two seasons and was integral to the winning of Most Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series at the 2020 Equity Ensemble Awards.
Other cast members include Thomas Weatherall (Troppo Charlie), Chloé Hayden (Jeremy The Dud), Josh Heuston (More Than This), Will McDonald (The School), Rachel House (Moana) and James Majoos.
