Helpful General Advice for Students Moving Away

Add as preferred source on Google

It’s completely normal to feel anxious about starting your new life at university, and potentially moving away from her or him for the first time.

You are not alone in this feeling , and as you start to settle in, starting your new academic studies, meeting people, joining societies and, most importantly making some fun and lasting memories, these anxieties will most definitely fade.

Until that moment though, here are some helpful morsels of advice to be able to enjoy the coming months; even if you do feel stressed and anxious about this new beginning.

Shop for your university room

This could be the first time that you get to choose your bedroom’s aesthetic and the vibe that you want.

Doing a shop before university, grabbing things that you definitely want to take with you, can be an exciting, therapeutic, and somewhat relaxing day out.

Whether you want your room to be plain and simple, filled with plants, multi-coloured and vibrant, or completely neutral. This is a time when you can express yourself through decorating your room the exact way that you want it.

Getting university supplies

Much like getting things for your rooms and creating your own environment, getting something for your studies ahead can make your stress levels decrease.

Ensure that you have notebooks, pens, flash cards, and sticky notes.

Although this sounds very basic, even if you think you may not use them, having the ability to jot something down, or stick something on your wall that you must remember; will create a more efficient and productive environment.

There is nothing worse when you quickly have to make a note of something, that is very important. Yet not only can you not find a pen, but you can’t find a scrap of paper either.

Having flash cards from the beginning of your studies can ensure you create monthly revision resources.

This is so that, at the end of the year, all your note-taking is done for you, and you could just start your revision in a more productive way.

Be yourself

This is a term that everybody has heard throughout school from a young age, and can be quite cringe or even a useless piece of advice.

However, it truly is one that will serve you well in the future.

If you go to university and pretend to be someone different, not only will you not make genuine connections, you will end up struggling.

You could start to feel completely overwhelmed if you are not being your authentic self.

If you are genuine, open, and kind, as basic and as simple as this sounds, you will find people who are drawn by your energy.

If you are panicking because you haven’t found your lifelong friends in the first few weeks, don’t worry! It usually takes a couple months before people start to relax and truly start to be themselves.
