How To Have A Great Summer Staying At Home

Add as preferred source on Google

Summer is amazing. We all dream of a summer holiday of interrailing, traveling to fancy places, going on city breaks. However, we can’t all do that however much we might want to. Some of us will be spending our summers at home and there are still ways to make it great.

Whether you are working at home, or just trying to find ways to stay occupied over the summer, here are things to make your summer incredible even without travelling and eating fancy foods in a new country.

Picnics with friends

If your friends are also spending the summer at home, what better way to get together and enjoy the sun than by enjoying a picnic? What you can do is all bring a little something to share. Organise yourselves so that someone brings drinks, food, salads… all the great picnic foods.

Bring a speaker and some music, plus a blanket, and you will have the perfect summer day.

Movie night in your backyard

If you have a beautiful summer evening and a garden, have a movie night in your backyard. This is an ideal way to help ensure you have a great summer at home. Whether it is with your friends, or your family, this is a great summertime activity.

Find a white sheet (or just a wall) and a portable projector, grab some popcorn, pop in your favourite movie and enjoy. Don’t have a portable projector? Fear not.

Find a little portable projector on Amazon that you can use all throughout the summer and later on. Alternatively, you can ask your friends and family, as someone is bound to have one.

Tie-Dye Shirts

Are you looking for a fun DIY activity? Then tie dying shirts can be a great summertime activity. Pop into your local Primark, a charity shop, or Amazon for some white shirts.

Don’t know how to tie dye? Fear not. Between Google and Pinterest you will master the skill in no time.

Self Care

The school year is our busiest time of the year. It is the time of the year where we might skip self-care night. However, if you have some time off over the summer and don’t know what to do then self-care and wellbeing can be your best friend.

A fun little self-care night, alone or with friends, doesn’t have to be expensive. You can find recipes for facemasks. Combine 2 tablespoons of honey, 1.5 tablespoons of coconut oil, and 1 drop of lavendar oil, and let it sit on your face for 15 minutes.

If you have a bath, pop into Lush or somewhere else, to pick up a bath bomb and take a nice long bath with no distractions. And finally to end your self care day, put on a fun romcom and paint your nails and your toes.

Cheeseboard night

Want to have a fun night with your friends. Something a bit classy? A cheeseboard night with all your friends might just be the answer for you. If you are on a budget, everyone can bring a little something.

Some people bring cheese, someone brings wine (or whatever you all want to drink), someone else grabs the dessert.

This is a great thing to do together and it doesn’t have to break the bank.

Make a TBR

Summer is the perfect time to relax and read. Especially if the normal year is a busy time. Now is the time to scour TikTok and especially Book Tok, Goodreads, Pinterest for the books you might want to read.

Make a list on your phone, or write it down, and get reading.

Summer doesn’t have to be fancy or about travelling to have fun. You can have a great summer without leaving your hometown.
