They’re not just re-hashed TikToks. The video feature on Instagram is great for keeping a digital diary, sharing funny moments, or even tutorials. If you think you have something to share but don’t know where to start, we can tell you how to make a Reel on Instagram and add a voiceover.

It’s so easy to sit and scroll through reels and not realize that hours have passed. If YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and this are anything to go by, we all love short-form videos. Perhaps it’s to do with our attention spans, or maybe we just want as much content as possible. Eitherway, there’s no reason just to sit at the sidelines and watch them when you can just as easily get involved!

How To Make A Reel On Instagram

Announced back in 2020, Reels have more than taken off on the platform and they were everywhere pretty quickly. So, if you thought you had been left behind, then we don’t blame you. However, that’s just not the case and you can be making Instagram Reels in no time.

Firstly, you should know all the different ways you can make a Reel. You can either use pre-made videos from your camera roll (plus button in the bottom left), take a series of clips to include in one reel, or record one-long clip. Whatever your choice, you’ll need to head to the camera on the Instagram app and select the ‘Reel’ icon.

If you want to go with one of the latter two, then you’ll just need to hold down the record button and stop when you’ve finished that clip. They’ll be a progress bar at the top of the screen letting you know how much time you’ve filmed. Once you’ve left go, you can either save your Reel as a draft to come back to later or hold the record button down again to record a second clip. Do this as many times as you need to make your video, which can be up to 90 seconds long.

Instagram even lets you record Reels hands-free using their countdown feature. To capture the video, place your phone down, and click record, which will then show a 3-second countdown. The timer feature will then record a clip for however long you set it, without you having to touch the button. Just click the stop watch button to get it ready!

Obviously, the more pictures or clips you add, the quicker the pace of your video.

How To Add A Voiceover To Reels

Next, is audio. There’s a huge range of music or narration to pick from within the app if there’s a trend that’s caught your eye. However, you can also record your own audio when snapping your clips, or use the voiceover feature once you’ve captured your Reel. Simply tap next when you’re done and then the music icon and finally the voiceover button. Hold the record button to capture your narration! Don’t worry, you can have more than one attempt and you can record more than one clip per Reel.

A slider bar will appear at the bottom for any audios that you use, letting you decide where it starts.

Even better, you’ll have attribution on the audio. So, if you have a public account, others can use it as a sound!

Once you become a pro, you’ll be able to master the align feature, which shows you where your last clip finished so you can make seamless transitions.
