For many students, exams have just finished and, for those, their academic year is over. After having a year of constantly having to do an assignment, plan for an essay, or make revision cards for an upcoming exam, finding a new routine and allowing yourself to relax can prove quite challenging.
For a whole year, you have woken up and had something to work towards. This could have been a specific deadline or assignment.
Taking the time to try to relax and not waking up stressed about your university work can take a while to settle into.
Of course, everyone is happy that they have finished their academic year. But many people do find it hard to switch off and alter their mindset. For that reason, here are some tips and tricks on how to allow yourself to relax properly after a hard year of work.
Mindfulness
Practicing mindfulness may not come naturally to all people. However, the more time you dedicate to this the more benefits you will receive.
It might feel a little odd, or a waste of time, in the first few attempts. However, if you stick with it, your mind won’t race, your stress levels will decrease, and this will truly allow you to switch off from your work environment and enjoy the time you have off for your holidays.
You can find mindfulness videos for free on YouTube, or there are certain apps that you can download to practice this to the best of your ability.
There are many health benefits of mindfulness, and stress relief is one of the biggest.

Yoga
Like mindfulness, this may not have been part of your everyday routine while studying. However, practicing a new hobby and seeing if it fits your lifestyle and routine can be a fun challenge.
Yoga requires quite a lot of flexibility, but don’t worry if you’re a beginner. There are beginner videos on apps such as Downward Dog, or YouTube videos available for all.
This could massively help decrease your stress levels. It also allows you to put your concentration into something other than academics. Concentrating on trying to improve your flexibility and help your overall body well-being while practicing these moves can be beneficial for your mind, body, and soul.
Summer bucket list
I’m sure throughout your university year everybody has made plans that they have never actually got round to doing.
Creating a bucket list that you wish to do over the summer holidays, when you finally have enough time to take a breath and relax, can make your summer plans worthwhile.
This doesn’t have to be anything crazy, like skydiving or bungee jumping. It can more simple, like making a list of places you’ve always wanted to go to eat, things you’ve always wanted to try, or visiting friends you have wanted to see for a while.
This can ensure that you don’t let this time of relaxation go to waste. This summer is going to fly by, so make sure you tick off as many things as possible before you commit to your university timetable again.
