How To Remove A TikTok Filter: Edit Doesn't Need A Filter Remover App

Jasmyne Jeffery November 12, 2022

Some TikTok users believe that removing a filter from their videos means downloading a whole other filter remove app. We’re here to definitively answer how to remove a TikTok filter within the platform itself.

There are so many edit features on TikTok that sometimes you really don’t know which one to pick. Often, you keep chopping and changing which one to use just making the video itself. If you’ve already made the video and changed your mind, don’t worry — you don’t need a TikTok filter remover to get the video you want.

A Few Ground Rules

Before learning how to remove a TikTok filter, there are a couple terms and conditions you need to know first. It’s a bit like Fight Club, except we’ve just broken the first rule…

Firstly, you can’t remove filters on other people’s video. Not only does this feel like a strange violation of that person’s creativity, there is just no physical way to do it on the app. There are probably more complicated ways to do it, but we highly recommend that you don’t.

Secondly, if you have already posted the video, then I’m afraid it’s too late. Filter’s can only be removed within the app if it still in your drafts or in the editing phase. If that is you, then you’ll just have to delete the video and start again. Sorry!

Now we’ve covered the rules, let’s move on to the crux of it.

How To Remove A TikTok Filter

Removing a TikTok filter really couldn’t be easier and we’ve got the easy steps for you right here. If you’ve already filmed the video then here’s how.

Firstly, go on to your profile on TikTok. Then, select the video you wan’t to edit from your drafts. Click the back arrow on the top left corner where it will then take you to the edit functions. Press ‘effects’ and then ‘undo’ to remove the filter!

If you’ve added multiple filters then keep pressing ‘undo’ until they have all been removed. If you don’t want to add anymore filters, then press ‘next’ and ‘none’ when it prompts you to add a filter.

After that, all you have to do is save your changes and your video is exactly how you want it to be!

If you’ve literally just finished recording the video then it’s even easier. Tap the filters tab on the left-hand side which will then reveal off of the filters available. Select portrait, then normal and remove all the applied filters. Sorted.

If you don’t want any filters whilst you’re actually recording the video, tap the effect icon next to the record button and set it to none.

See? No need for a TikTok filter remover app!

All Fun And Games?

Using filters can be really funny and add to the comedy in a video. However, it is always important to remember that some beautifying filters can create the illusion someone looks a certain unrealistic way.

Whether you want to use any kind of filter is completely up to you. Just don’t get hell-bent on trying to copy the look of your favourite content creator when it might actually be impossible.

Stick to the green screens and funky colours — it’s a lot more fun that way.
