BUCS is a staple of university life. However, it is near impossible to keep a track of the progress of each of your university’s teams. Even if you tried, the sheer number of sports makes it an arduous task. It is important to maintain an interest in how your university is getting on with BUCS, as students, like you, devote a lot of time to training, travelling to matches etc. Therefore, this series of articles is the perfect way to support, without having to delve deep into the internet for updates. So let Freshered talk you through the key updates you need for each of these universities.
King’s College London
The Men’s Basketball first team, led by Max Reinhardt, are looking good to earn promotion out of the South Eastern Tier 2B. They currently sit in second place, sat three points behind the leaders, with a precious game in hand. Victory in this game would see the London-based team go top, and sit in pole position for promotion. Things are not looking so positive for the Women’s Netball first team. They are yet to pick up a point in the EY South Eastern Tier 1 after five games, with relegation to Tier 2 staring them in the face. For the Women’s Badminton second team, it has been a bit of a mixed bag of a season. They are currently situated in second in the Women’s South Eastern Tier 2B, but could find themselves further down the pecking order if other teams are successful in their games in hand.
University of Liverpool
For Max Naylor’s Men’s Hockey first team, it is proving to be a successful season in the Men’s Northern Tier 1. Four wins from six games has them situated nicely in third, with two games in hand. Victory in these games would see the team well on their way to challenging for promotion to the premier tier. It is a similar story for the Women’s Lacrosse first team. An impressive record of six wins from seven games means they are certainly involved in the battle for promotion from the Women’s Northern Tier 1. If they are able to win their game in hand, they would go level on points with the team in first, putting on pressure as the season nears its conclusion. In Men’s Ultimate Frisbee, Arko Tuisk will be relatively happy with the first team’s record of two wins from three.

University of Sheffield
It is proving to be a season to remember for the Women’s Football first team, who currently sit joint top of the Northern Tier 1, with a game in hand. Led by Hannah Pedder, they boast an impressive record, having only lost one league match all season. All the season nears the business end, they will certainly being eyeing up promotion to the Premier Tier. For the Men’s Rugby Union first team, captained by Kaj Douglas, it is proving to be a very average season. Sat in fourth place, with four wins and four losses, they is no threat of relegation, but promotion looks unlikely. Another season in the Men’s Premier North 2 looks almost certain. In American Football, three wins from five in the Northern Tier 1, coupled with a game in hand, sets the Men’s first team well in their promotion push.
University of Glasgow
In Women’s Basketball, the women’s first team are involved in a relegation battle. They currently sit on three points with two other teams, in fourth place, given their superior points difference. With games against their relegation rivals coming up, to which the term six-pointer does not do justice, it really is crunch time for the Glaswegian team. It is a completely different story in Men’s Water Polo however, with the first team, led by Pablo Merlino, sitting top of the Scottish Tier 1. Boasting a record of six wins from seven, they are in pole position to earn promotion to the premier tier for next season. In the Women’s Premier North, the Glasgow Rugby Union first team currently sit bottom, enduring a season to forget. Relegation looks to be a formality, with a five point gap to close with only two games remaining.
