With his recent victory against his ex-wife Amber Heard in court, Johnny Depp is once more in the spotlight.
Depp has portrayed many different roles throughout his career, some of which are highlighted below. He is an amazing actor with an incredible ability to completely consume himself in the character’s personality.
Many people forget that the actor is Depp, due to the range of different characters that he plays so well.
This actor can never be described as a one-trick pony or typecast. It has been argued that he is one of the best actors of his generation.
Here are just a few of his best characters and films, which I would highly recommend watching and why.
Pirates of the Caribbean
This film is filled with humour, love, and amazing fight scenes. This is a story of a pirate crew seeking to get their lives back, cause havoc as they tried to capture Johnny Depp, and his accomplices, and also maintain their reputation as the best pirate crew on all of the Seas.
This movie franchise has four films, and the first three are an absolute watch. The storyline is detailed yet never boring as with this animation, and Depp’s betrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow will never disappoint.
He adds humour to a serious situation with his expressive walk and eyes. He portrays a sense of the craziness that you believe to be real.
Edward Scissorhands
This is a classic movie with one of Depp’s finest performances. Edward Scissorhands tells the story of an artificial humanoid who has – you guessed it – scissors for hands.
Directed by Tim Burton, the movie is regarded as a classic and rightly makes any list including Depp’s best roles.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
This book by Roald Dahl, which was adapted for a second time in 2005, is an absolute must-watch.
This is an amazing story of a child whose family is very poor, yet then gets a chance to go to this amazing Chocolate Factory and win a grand prize.
Through the golden ticket scheme, five children get to meet Willie Wonka. Depp portrays this character as a nervous, unique, eccentric, yet extravagant man.
You see the emotional background this character has endured and why the chocolate factory is so important to him.
Depp can make a quirky character still have depth and emotion, which massively shows his range and talent.
Alice in Wonderland
Depp excellently portrays the character of the Mad Hatter in this film. With his bright orange hair and extravagant clothing, he can depict this character brilliantly in Burton’s 2010 adaptation.
He does throw himself into all the characters that he is given, as you see him able to switch from the light-hearted funny Hatter to an angry depiction of this character when he becomes upset.
This character switch is done very smoothly, which once again highlights Depp’s acting talents.
