A run-down of some of my favourite TikTok trends of July.
Minion Makeup Trend
This is by far my favourite trend at the moment. July kicked off with the release of a a new movie titled Minions: The Rise of Gru, from the Despicable Me franchise. If you hadn’t guessed it already, this TikTok trend is inspired by the movie. This trend is not to be confused with the Gentleminions trend seen on TikTok recently; you can read about this trend by clicking here.
The minion makeup trend involves doing someone’s makeup to look like a minion – a yellow creature known for wearing goggles. Meanwhile tricking them into thinking they are getting a gorgeous face of makeup.
The best part of this trend is undoubtedly people’s reactions. Most look disappointed, some laugh, and some even cry.
They’re a 10 but…
The idea of this trend is to see how people would rate someone they consider a 10/10 when they have an undesired trait or a behaviour considered to be ‘icky’.
To clarify, this trend is not an excuse to be mean to others and instead is there for comedic purposes and I must say I find them extremely entertaining.
Some examples of the trend include:
- “He’s a ten but has the same voice as your brother” (@zahra on TikTok)
- “They’re a ten but their phone wallpaper is a photo of just themselves” (@camkirkhambaby on TikTok)
- “They’re a ten but they casually drink glasses of milk” (@savagelivia on TikTok)
Slightly more positive variations of the trend also exist where the initial number is lower and a positive trait is attached on the end.
If you haven’t seen this trend yet, or joined in, make sure you do so. It’s never too late!

Stargirl Interlude Dance
TikTok is very well known for the dance routines its users create on the app. At times, the number of routines that appear on the For You Page can be overwhelming but, of course, there are always standout ones. The dance to the Stargirl Interlude by The Weeknd featuring Lana Del Rey is without a doubt one of these standout dances.
This dance features three very simple moves and simple camera work too and was created by TikTok user @diarrheaquinn. The dance is accompanied by the sped-up version of the song which makes it all the catchier. Click here to watch the original video and see for yourself why this dance has TikTok users hooked.
Chrissy wake up!
I have saved the best trend to last. Unlike the other trends mentioned in this article, the reason this trend is a top trend is not so much about what users are creating with it, but their reaction and use of the TikTok sound. The Chrissy wake up alarm sound was created by TikTok user @schomoyoho and is a remix of a scene from Season Four Vol. One of Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things. Presently, this sound has been used to create 48.8 thousand videos, with the original video having 19.3 million views! It’s safe to say that this is a viral trend.
If you haven’t watched the latest instalment of the show this trend may spoil it for you. So, if you want to check out what users are creating with this sound, you have been warned.
