Made in Chelsea has been a long-running reality TV show which first aired in 2011. There have been many different dramatic storylines as we watch the real-life people of Chelsea through their relationship troubles, exciting job opportunities, and every-day life (at least for them).
This is a popular show due to the type of life that these young people enjoy, especially the amount of disposable income they seem to have. This show has shown many holidays, exclusive meals and dinner parties which, to some young people, seems like a dream.
Season 23 started airing in early April, and there is already a common theme dominating this series – marriage. Two of the main reality stars Sophia Haboo and Tiphany Watson, are both engaged.
It is obvious that many of their co-stars, whether this is set up or not, share a feeling and sense of pressure being unmarried at a certain age.
This is, of course, not a bad thing to want or desire. However, through following the storyline of James and Maeva, we come to witness a relationship where two people are clearly not on the same page. Mavea is shown in a light where she is pressuring her other half into making a life changing decision. One he does not seem ready for.
That said, some people believe this is unfair. She should not be condemned for wanting to start a family, just as James should not be torn apart for not wanting to take this step if he doesn’t feel ready.
Watching a moment which is meant to be one of the most important and magical part of two people’s lives start to crumble is an interesting one to assess, wondering if these two people should actually be together.
Other storylines which provide depth on this show includes the struggle that Ollie Locke and his husband Gareth face in trying to have a child. After losing their baby through surrogacy, it’s heart-breaking to see the agony that same-sex couples, and those with fertility issues, have to go through in order to get their family started; as this is what they desire so badly.
Hopefully by the end of the season we will be able to see their family start to grow.
