A trailer for the movie-musical version of the beloved classic has been released. Find out details of the cast, release date and more!

Trailer

FINALLY! It’s a miracle! A trailer for Roald Dahl’s beloved ‘Matilda’ has landed. However, this isn’t just a revamp of the 1996 classic, it’s a film version of the smash-hit 2010 musical.

A story about a child with magical powers, the trailer shows the feisty children of Crunchem Hall rebel against their tyrannical headmistress.

Tim Minchin’s incredible music plays through the trailer, familiar to those who have seen this story on stage. And in a hilarious nod to the original movie, the final shot of the trailer shows Amanda Thripp being swung over a fence by her pigtails.

Cast

In the trailer, Emma Thompson (‘Nanny McPhee’, ‘Cruella’) is barely recognisable as Miss Trunchbull. Up-and-coming Alisha Weir plays the eponymous Matilda, and so with these two, it looks like we are in for a treat.

Also joining the cast is Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey, and Line of Duty’s Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough as the Wormwoods.

Release Date

Set for release in December 2022, the UK and Ireland will be able to watch this in cinemas. A global release on Netflix will follow behind the UK on an as yet unspecified date, but we can’t wait.
